F.A.Q

FAQ (frequently asked question)

Why did you open the orphanage?
Nepali children are often neglected by their parents and villages. Children are living in brutal conditions either in rural or urban societies. We had previously worked to raise money for other orphanages and children’s causes. After we noticed the lack of help from the government, we knew we could do more to help this dire situation. So we began to organize Nepal Helpless children prosperity society.

What is your main purpose with NHCPS?
We want to decrease the number of orphans and helpless children. By preventing current poverty cycle. We currently have 10 children but within 5 year we would like to be able to support 20 children. This will have a big impact on reduce the current and future amount of children living in poverty.

How is NHCPS funded?
We currently do not receive any funding from the government but are required to pay the government a registration fee. At this present point we also do not have any continuous sponsorship.  We collecting small donations through our volunteer program but the main income source is from Sujan part time work.

Where is NHCPS Located?
We currently are located in Khumalter, Lalitpur. Our house is located underneath the landlord. This causes many issues for us. The children do not have enough space to play, run around, make noise or feel free. It’s also an issue when coming to do daily jobs because we do not have solar power or a generator we only have electricity for a few hours in the morning and three or four hours at night. Our water can also be an issue being drawn up my bucket from a well.

How many staff do you have?
The only staff member we have right now is a teenage girl coming from a nearby village. She helps with the house chores and cooking. She is also living with us.

What education do you currently provide?
At present all our children attend the local public school. Our goal is to gain enough sponsorship to allow all our children obtain private school education. As well as a formal education our volunteer scheme provides the children with an informal education.

What are your future plans for NHCPS children?
We provide the children with the foundation blocks to live a successful and independent life.  Each child has different interest and goals for their own lives. Some would like to be social workers others would like to be an artist. We will support their decisions like we would support our own children.

How does your volunteer scheme work?
We have been listed on workawary.org. People who are interested in our profile come and join us for as much time as they are able to. We treat them as part of the family providing them with meals and snacks. In return they help with the day to day running of the house including admin, cleaning and of course they spend many hours playing, reading and educating the children. We have found the children have a positive reaction to the love & affection they receive from volunteers.

What are you immediate funding requirements?
Currently we are looking for continuous sponsorship to help with on-going purchasing of food, clothing and utility bills. Our main material needs are beds & bedding, office equipment.
Our long term goal is to gain enough sponsorship to put all 10 children in private education as well as moving into bigger premises which will better fit government requirements. We are actually obliged to build a second building in the yard, because we need to have the kids in two different rooms (boys and girls) but the house does not have enough rooms. Bigger premises would be a better way to take care of this problem, but also more expensive.
How much more money would you require to achieve these goals?

We estimate one thousand Euros a month would be enough to provide the children with everything they need.

Below is a breakdown of our monthly and year expense. We believe in being 100% transparent will all sponsors.  We run as a none profit charity supporting children in need.
